A Proposal, In An Illustrated World

KellyAndMatt_Detail_Flossy-p

In my latest commission I was asked to represent the occasion of when Kelly and Matt became engaged! A day in a park in Broken Hill, sitting on a little hill near a huge fig tree. A moment I’m sure neither of them will ever forget.

(Notice the little hill under the tree that has broken away from the rest of the land? Broken Hill…)

Every single element in the painting is something they mentioned holds significance to them. Which means there’s nothing in there that doesn’t! I love works like this.

Wishing you both wonderful happy days ahead.

Never Never Creek

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

A little while back the kind folk at Lalaland asked me to create a new design for them. So I came up with this sleepy platypus design, titled “Never Never Creek”. Now available as a print from Lalaland.

Once again I converted the design into something bed-worthy!

Ekko

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

Ekko is an eastern rosella who lives with his human companion in Western Australia. Eastern rosella’s are common in my neighbourhood, but they aren’t usually found in WA. So when they asked me to paint a portrait of Ekko, I was thrilled!

This is one of the largest sized commissions I’ve done, and I had so much fun squeezing loads of detail in all that extra space! Ekko is perched on outlines of actual leaves from trees where eastern rosellas hang out in my garden, on a stormy coloured egg-shaped background, nestled amongst his favourite blossom-foods.

It is now also available as a lovely big greeting card at Lalaland!

Eucalyptus, by flossy-p

A little while back I was invited by Spoonful Zine to create a flower; a eucalyptus, with its Victorian meaning of “protection”, to be included in Issue 8 alongside flowers created by other artists.

An oversized bloom, with a protective knitted collar.

Now I’ve made it into a pillowcase set, available in my Etsy shop.

Amber's Fox - by flossy-p

This commission was from a sneaky-sweet man, as a surprise for his fiance for Christmas. He asked for a painting similar to the girl and wombat, but with his fiance instead, and her favourite animal; a fox.

He told me lots of little bits about each of them – details I represented in an orbit of icons.

I’m told she loved it. And I’m pret-ty sure he would have scored some high points too for being so thoughtful.

I liked the fox so much that I returned to my initial concept sketches, worked them up a little further and turned them into Star Fox and Moon Fox pillowcases. Now available in my Etsy shop!

A Commission to Celebrate

Commission for Mel, Brenden and Harper

In 17 more sleeps this fine looking pair will be getting married! They wanted a casual family portrait to have on display at their wedding; a rustic, country, vintage wedding.

Along with their beautiful little girl and their beloved dog, I placed them on the creek which runs through their wedding venue, set the backdrop to the one they will see from their wedding location, and wrapped them in a vintage doily, (like the ones they plan to have there).

Wishing them the most splendid day, and magical life beyond!

Lalaland 2013 Calendar

flossy-p's Giant Wombat, is the June picture in the 2013 Calendar

Every year I spend hours and hours online, searching high and low for just the right calendar. I’m lost without one, but I’m very very fussy about them, I mean you’re going to be looking at it for a whole year!

For me it’s not just about the pictures, though that does play a big part, the layout, the size of the squares, the size of it overall… I won’t bore you with the rest of my scrupulous list, as it goes on and on. The secret is out.

Anyway, Lalaland have put together a 2013 calendar featuring lots of great illustrations. And upon first look it seems to tick all of my boxes. Good job Lalaland! I’m proud to be included.

You can buy it online for just shy of $20 right here!
